PET OF THE MONTH- JUNE 2023

Pet of the month for June goes to this pretty girl, Aria!

Aria came to visit Dr Raj for a general health check up, her owners were concerned about a lump that was growing on the back of her right hock (ankle joint). The lump was only small, a pea sized dermal mass that had become ulcerated. Due to how the lump looked & the location that it was growing, Dr Raj recommended having it removed & sent off for testing. Due to the location of where the lump is, it is extremtly hard to debulk the lump completely- this is why testing is also very important, as not only will it tell us what it is, but will let us know if we were able to remove it all.

Aria’s procedure went very well & she recovered very fast. We now just had to wait for her histopathology results to return. After a couple days waitig we got the results, unfortunately it came back that her lump was cancerous. The good news is that we were able to remove everything! The lab however, was not able to determine exactly what type of cancer she has- so she has been referred to an Oncologist for further testing.

Aria is very lucky that her owners brought her in to get checked out, if left, the lump could have grown & possibly spread. She is doing very well at home recovering & her owners will continue to bring her down when they notice any new lumps!

If your pet has any lumps growing, it’s always a great idea to have them looked at by the vet. If left to grow, they can cause further issues in the future.
