PET OF THE MONTH - JULY 2024

Pet of the month for July goes to this beautiful boy Ralph.

Ralph is a 10 year old boy he has multiple health issues a few being liver disease which is being treated by tablets to help support his liver, he also has gotten his gall bladder removed and the main being his arthritis.

He has unfortunately had to get both his cruciate ligaments in his back legs repaired which has cause arthritis to start a lot quicker than normal. Due to this he has been getting injections called Zydax this can also be known as Cartrophen. He has been on these injections for well over a year now. He has also recently over the past few months started another injection which is called Beransa.

What these injections do:

Beransa – Is a monthly injection that alleviates pain for the full month, it targets and neutralises a protein that stimulates pain in patients with arthritis

Zydax – Is a course of 4 injections 1 every week for 4 weeks and repeated every 3 months. This injection helps stimulate cartilage producing cells to help produce healthy cartilage in the joints, it slows down the cartilage damage by the destructive enzymes, helps stimulate joint capsule cells to produce lubricating joint fluid and more.

Due to the colder months, he has been a lot stiffer in the mornings yet these injections have been reducing the amount of pain and discomfort he is having. With Ralphs Liver condition he cannot be given regular anti-inflammatories as they have damaging effects on the body, he comes in for routine bloods to check the liver and kidney enzymes to make sure the medications he is on are helping him and not doing the opposite.

We would like to say a massive thanks to Ralphs family for taking the best care of Ralph!
