PET OF THE MONTH - NOVEMBER 2023

Meet Winston! Winston is an 8-year-old flat coat retriever.

Winston came in as his back legs were a bit sore and he was starting to limp on his left hind leg. Dr Raj suspected that he had ruptured his cruciate ligament of the left knee joint as he was showing similar signs as last time when he ruptured his cruciate ligament of his right knee joint. Few years ago, he had MMP surgery done on the right knee joint.

Dr Raj on examination assessed the cranial-drawal sign on him to see how his left stifle joint moved as he suspected that they had ruptured their cruciate ligament Winston’s came back positive so x-rays were performed to 100% confirm this. X-rays for Winston proved that Dr Raj’s diagnosis was sadly correct.

Dr Raj & Dr Hali again performed our orthopaedic surgery on his left knee joint that we have been doing here at Atwell Vet for the past few years called MMP cruciate repair. This involves cutting the actual bone, placing a titanium wedge (as seen in the picture), a pin and staple. Winston is now recovering and are now back on the mend to being able to run around freely without any pain.
