Pet of the month for December 2022 goes to this special girl, Brie!
Brie has had a very different up bringing compared to most other dogs. Herself & her brother were both born with cleft palates. Due to this inherited issue, Brie has had some health complications during her first 2 years of life. One thing her cleft palate hasn’t stopped her doing is eating things she shouldn’t!
Brie came down to visit Dr Raj because she was lethargic and was vomiting on & off. It was recommended we do a complete blood work up & have an ultrasound performed. Her bloods showed nothing of major significance, so her owners opted to have some medications to go home with & would keep a close eye on her. The next day she still hadn’t showed any improvement so she was brought back in to have an ultrasound of her abdominal cavity.
Unfortunately for Brie, the ultrasound showed that she had a foreign body stuck in her intestines. The only way to remove the foreign body is surgically. Her owners were advised of the findings & the risks this procedure comes with, but gave us the consent to go ahead with the procedure. It was found that she had ingested some sort of seed from a tree.
Everything went very well & she recovered perfectly. She spent the next 3 days at the clinic so that we could monitor her recovery and her food/water intake. She is now home & fully recovered! Both Brie & her brother Manny are so lucky to have the parents they do 😊
